first funding stage (2014-2017)

In the first funding phase the subproject A05 "Security against genocide. Emergence and enforcement of international condemnation of genocide" focuses on the network of East-Central and South-Eastern European actors who made special contributions to dealing with the threat of "Crimes de barbarie" in the political and legal discourse about international (criminal) law during the 1920s and 1930s. The project’s main assumption is that the problem of genocide (not yet existing as a term at that time) had first to be securitized before it became possible to address it as an issue of international politics and to lay the foundations for an international juridification of the prosecution of genocide.
