Subproject B02 — Architectonic and Visually Mediated Conceptions of Security: Suburbs
second funding stage (2018-2021)
In Early Modern Age, the outskirts were a zone, which presented potential threats as well as the manifestation of security, but which also provided an opportunity for recreation. The project analyses the aesthetical conventions, which gave the addressees an impression of security or insecurity of the suburbs. On the one hand, the project focuses on defortification, associated or succeeding measures and their representations in pictures. On the other hand, it takes pictures of the outskirts and marginalized population into account, which was visualised as „non-native“ in the period of investigation (1660-1850).
